Strong polarization mode coupling in microresonators.
We observe strong modal coupling between the TE00 and TM00 modes in Si3N4 ring resonators revealed by avoided crossings of the corresponding resonances. Such couplings result in significant shifts of the resonance frequencies over a wide range around the crossing points. This leads to an effective dispersion that is one order of magnitude larger than the intrinsic dispersion and creates broad w...
متن کاملPolarization associated with the coupling to isoscalar dipole compression mode
The effect of core polarization on isoscalar dipole one-particle moments due to the coupling with isoscalar giant dipole resonance ~compression mode! is estimated. Numerical calculations with the core nucleus 82 Pb126 show that a small enhancement of one-particle moments is obtained, of which the magnitude depends sensitively on relevant one-particle orbitals. The results are important for a mi...
متن کاملScaling laws in velocity-selective coherent population trapping in the presence of polarization-gradient cooling
One-dimensional laser cooling based on velocity-selective coherent population trapping ~VSCPT! on a 2g→1e transition has been investigated numerically through the solution of the optical Bloch equations. As in the work of G. Morigi et al. @Phys. Rev. A 53, 2616 ~1996!#, it has been found that for a large set of atomic and laser parameters, the VSCPT cooling process may be described through scal...
متن کاملDipole-mode vector solitons
We find a new type of optical vector soliton that originates from trapping of a dipole mode by the soliton-induced waveguides. These solitons, which appear as a consequence of the vector nature of the two-component system, are more stable than the previously found optical vortex solitons and represent a new type of extremely robust nonlinear vector structure.
متن کاملPredictions of laser-cooling temperatures for multilevel atoms in three-dimensional polarization-gradient fields
Abstract We analyze the dynamics of atom-laser interactions for atoms having multiple, closely spaced, excited hyperfine manifolds. The system is treated fully quantum mechanically, including the atom’s center-of-mass degree of freedom, and motion is described in a polarization gradient field created by a three-dimensional laser configuration. We develop the master equation describing this syst...
